I used to 12-16 table 100 and 200nl like nothing. I was able to process information this way and won at about 2BB which is kinda sick over 6 months of it. But in reality I never got any better which sucked. What it did allow me to do was control my demons. I could easily find the fold button and move on to other tables. I still made plays in hands and took non-standard lines, but it was a matter of no preflop awareness of hands and just auto-piloting preflop. I could focus on the 3-5 tables I was involved in post flop and play OK poker.

With my interest in getting better as a player I have dropped the mass tabling and 6-9 table. Mostly I have been 6 (80% of my hands probably) and this brings/brought out my demons. I was making curious calls and silly plays.

When you understand poker one thing you should always go with is your gut. You know when a line didnt make sense and there is another play to make. But when your guy says fold you had better be very sure that if you make another play it is actually EV.

I dont need money, not from poker, in my real life. KISS, keep it simple stupid. That is actually the simplistic answer to reducing variance and making steady money. It’s now my new slogan. There is a lot more to it that I have delved into but thats the just of it. KISS and things will be OK.

My first coaching session is tomorrow. I actually feel like I don’t NEED it right now but I know it will be of benefit to me.

I played a really good session just now. Mostly straight forward, table selected well. I kept my image good, which is irrelevant at 100nl unless its short term (like 3 hands). I didn’t get too fancy and made solid reads. I really like a few hands where I barreled a couple streets and rivered top 2 pair. I over bet them like 3 times and was able to get calls from worse hands by representing what I thought they would take as a bluff. I like that line because it forces people to make a tough choice and makes folding to a shove really easy for the other half of my stack. I cant get AA or KK in PF at all. I will have to look at possibly flatting more with them. I really don’t flat JJ+ and AK ever and rarely AQ. I think that’s somewhat EV though as it does give me a laggy image to the regulars (at least it makes my 3b stat better). I think one thing I will work on is actually 3b bluffing a lot more with some suited connectors to get it even higher. There is just no reason I cant get those hands in PF once in a while.

Just had a 8.6bi session which felt great. My game is falling in line right with the new year and things look good. My mindset, coaching, a select few poker buddies and I am happy.

My coach and Theorize from CardRunners have both talked a good bit to me about mental things. That really is just as important as anything else you can do in poker. I highly suggest that everyone reach out and find a couple players that play higher than themselves and don’t just use them for how to play hands but also how to be in the right mindset. It’s great to know that two players who play a limit or two higher than me will be there to talk about everything from poker to life.

Again here a multi-way pot filter says that I am losing too much money in these hands….. starting to wonder. Clearly this is focusing on something I need to consider working on and focusing attention to… typing this as I examine my hands in the database.

Suited connectors is a loser so far but not a huge one. One BI at 487 hands with them (for hands below KQs). Still a multi-way pots and should be positive.

Folding to CB raises seems OK but keep an eye on it, very very small sample.

I feel a lot better about my game at this point. The huge hand was a maniac I had been sitting with for a few hours and had a lot of information on since he was playing every hand. His hand ended up being better than I expected here, he had a gut shot and 2 under cards to the board while I got in Top and Bottom pair. I was more than happy with this hand the way I played it, even so deep. There was a regular in the hand who tank folded, if he came along on the shove by the fish I was folding but if not I knew the second I led out the turn that there was no fucking way I was folding if the fish shoved like I expected him to a huge percent of the time. He basically shoved any air, mid/bottom pair or bad draw here. With strong hands or draws he always waited till the river to shove whether he hit or missed. There will be a link to the video of my last session to come that will have the hand at about 45 minutes in.

12/24/09 Session 6- tabling 100NL

I still have a lot to work on with pokering. I have always been able to beat up the for a fair amount but incurred huge swoigs along the way. I have always had CR/DC/Stox/2p2 etc. I never really watched videos. 10 minutes in I would load up. I used to mass table as well. I never learned the theory behind the game. I never understodd that tilt doesnt mean blowing half your roll in a night. It means not playing your A game, playing too many tables, not thinking through hands, and never trying to be better.

I am currently looking for coaching, reviewing the first 10k of my hands to find huge leaks, and selectively finding videos that I think can help me. I will reach out to my stakers for coaching advise and see what is there.

This stake started off down a shit ton. I am now down a buyin but armed with some serious intentions as a player. All of my resets and rakeback will go to coaching and staking across a few other sites.
For the first time I am not just playing to get hands in, I am actually looking at the top of the hill. I by no means want to be a nose bleeds player, but I do know that I have the discipline, brain and talent to play mid stakes and make good money.

I also for the first time ever know how to balance and establish my life outside first. The break landed me a good job, financial stabililty and a return to school that work pays for.

Its should create a healthy relationship for my staker and myself by having this low maintenance and instant method to keep an eye on things. While I wont have any specific goals for this stake it will also make my results public as well as give me a visual representation of my results and playing habits.

Updates will come once per week at a minimum and more if time permits. The game is 100NL 6-maxs on FTP. Cut runs 50/50+sb. Rakeback is not included, nor are FTP points or Iron Man Medals. Per the agreement there is no hand or time stipulation other than to play with integrity and with reasonable volume and results. Resets may happen at any point in time if both parties agree to the reset.

Occasionally there will be sweat sessions amongst my staker(s) and hopefully I can network out to some other players within his staking parties and meet some new people that play the same games or bigger than me so that I can progress as a player and thus through limits.
